Three Abuja motorists bag non-custodial sentencing for causing obstruction
A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Wuse, Abuja, on Wednesday issued Adegoke Olayinka, Ernest Jamma, and Yarima Patrick a non-custodial sentence for causing obstruction.
The magistrate, Oyepeju Mustapha, handed down a suspended sentence and ordered them to sign an undertaking not to commit a similar or any other road traffic offence.
Mr Mustapha also ordered that the vehicles of the convicts be released by officers of the Nigerian police force, Utako Division, Abuja.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Chinenye Okafor, told the court that the convicts drove their vehicles in a careless manner and caused obstruction to other road users along the Nnamdi Azikwe Expressway by Berger Bridge, Abuja.
She said the offence contravened the provisions of section 41 of the Road Traffic Act.
The trio, Messrs Olayinka, Jamma and Patrick, pleaded guilty.
The defence counsel, Enagonimi Ekpede, however, begged the court for mercy, adding that Messrs Olayinka, Jamma and Patrick were first-time offenders, have families and did not waste the time of the court.
