Three Abuja security guards in court over alleged theft of scaffold pipes worth N1.8 million

Three security guards, Emma Kaimu ,23, Baba Sunday ,23, Sadiq Usman ,20 on Wednesday appeared before a Wuse Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja over alleged criminal conspiracy and theft.
The trio, who are security guards at No. 4 Aloma Close, Minister Hill, Maitama Abuja, were charged with criminal conspiracy.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Festus Ajayi, told the court that the complainant, Chigoze Onuekuwusi, of the same address, reported the matter at Maitama Police station on July 13.
MrAjayi alleged that the security guards attached to the house, on July 10 criminally conspired and stole scaffold pipes valued at N1.8 million.
He said that the defendants were captured through a CCTV camera.
He said that during the police investigation they could not give a satisfactory account of their actions.
The prosecutor said that the offence is contrary to Sections 79 and 289 of the Penal Code.
The defendants’ counsel, Helen Akpala, applied for bail of the defendants, citing Sections 158 and 162 of the Administration of the Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), noting however that bail is at the discretion of the court.
The Magistrates, Hafsat Amir, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N500,000 each with one surety each in like sum.
She ordered that the sureties must reside within the court jurisdiction and provide all means of identification.
MsAmir added that the sureties addresses must be verified by the court’s registrar, and adjoined the matter until August 24 for hearing.
