Three arrested in Kwara for armed robbery, vandalism

Police command in Kwara has arrested three suspects linked to vandalism of government-owned solar light infrastructure and criminal activities in the state.
In a statement on Wednesday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the arrest followed recent concerns raised by members of the public over suspected criminal activities within the Asa Dam/Dangote Road axis.
“Acting on sustained surveillance and credible intelligence, following recent concerns raised by members of the public over suspected criminal activities within the Asa Dam/Dangote Road axis, operatives of the VCRU in the early hours of Tuesday, 27th May 2026 swiftly responded to suspicious movements around the Tanke area of Ilorin, leading to the arrest of three suspects linked to a criminal syndicate involved in vandalisation of government-installed solar light infrastructure and armed robbery-related activities within Asa Dam/Dangote Road axis,” Ms Ejire-Adeyemi stated.
She noted that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were part of a wider network responsible for criminal activities across key locations within Ilorin metropolis.
According to her, items recovered from the suspects included two locally made pistols, pliers, and various suspected hard drugs, believed to be used in the commission of their criminal activities.
Ms Ejire-Adeyemi explained that further intelligence-led efforts are ongoing to identify, track, and arrest other members of the syndicate as well as their receivers.
Police commissioner, CP Adekimi Ojo, commended the intelligence-driven and proactive operations of the VCRU, noting that the success reflected the command’s sustained surveillance posture in identified flashpoints and its commitment to the safety and security of residents.
Mr Adekimi reassured members of the public that no criminal element will be allowed to operate freely within the state.
