Mercy Elisha, a beans seller, on Thursday dragged three of her customers before a magistrates’ court in Kafanchan, Kaduna.

She accused them of refusing to settle a debt of N226,000.

Marshall Timothy, Lami Christopher, and Baiwa Richard were docked on two counts of breach of trust and cheating, contrary to sections 296 and 307 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017.

Ms. Elisha, through a direct complaint before the court, alleged that in January, Mssrs Timothy, Christopher, and Richard jointly bought 452 measures of beans at the rate of N500 per measure from her.

She said the defendants promised to pay but failed to do.

When the charge was read to them, they all pleaded not guilty.

The presiding judge, Michael Bawa, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N100,000 each and a surety in like sum.

Bawa adjourned the matter until February 24 for a hearing in the case.
