Three men in court for allegedly assaulting lady

The magistrate adjourned the case until August 26 for mention.

Three men were on Wednesday, arraigned at an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, Oyo State, for allegedly assaulting a woman.

The defendants, Taiwo Oke, 30, Azeez Ayegbajeje, 25, and Olamilekan Ogunleye, 32, were charged with conspiracy, assault, stealing and damage, to which they pleaded not guilty.

The prosecuting counsel, Inspector M.O. Adegbenro told the court that the defendants allegedly conspired to commit the assault.

Mr Adegbenro said that the defendants unlawfully and indecently assaulted one Racheal Ajakoye and caused her bodily harm.

He further alleged that the defendants, among whom was a guard, on August 10, caught the complainant at about 4:30 a.m and accused her of stealing and in the process assaulted her.

Mr Adegbenro also alleged that the defendants stole N24,000 belonging to the complainant and unlawfully destroyed her dress, brassiere, pant and necklace, valued at N21,000.

According to the prosecutor, the offence was committed at Keji Junction, Odo -Ona Nla via Idi-Ayunre in Ibadan, Oyo State.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 355, 360, 390 (9), 451 and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Olasunmbo Sanusi-Subair admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N200, 000 each, with two sureties in like sum.

Ms Sanusi-Subair said that one of the sureties must be the defendants’ parent, while the other must be known to their parents.

She, thereafter, adjourned the case until August 26 for mention.
