Three men remanded for allegedly vandalising Ekiti transformers

The police, on Tuesday, brought an application before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, seeking remand of three men over alleged vandalisation of transformers.

The defendants are: Ajayi Sunday, 22; Ibrahim Bello, 37; and Ali Adam, 30.

Their pleas were however, not taken .

In a form K brought by the police, the prosecutor, ASP Olasunkanmi Bamikole, alleged that the defendants committed the offence between February 23 and March 2, 2025, within Oye-Ekiti and Ilupeju-Ekiti.

He alleged that the defendants vandalised two transformers located at Idofin, near Oye-Ekiti and Ilupeju-Ekiti respectively.

Mr Bamikole alleged that the defendants also stole Armoured cables from the transformers, valued at over N40 million.

He alleged that the vandalised items are owned by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company and Ekiti State Electricity Board.

The offence contravenes the provisions of section 9 of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, Cap M17 Law of the Federation, 2004.

It also contravenes the provisions of section 302 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021.

The prosecutor then urged the court to remand the defendants at the correctional centre, pending advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The Chief Magistrate, Bankole Oluwasanmi, consequently, ordered the remand of the defendants at the correctional centre, pending legal advice.

He adjourned the case until May 11, for mention.
