Tinubu appointed new CBN team to redeem apex bank’s battered image: Senator Gumel

Senator Abdullahi Gumel, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), explained that the appointment of the new management team for the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) aims to revitalise the institution and ensure it fulfils its responsibilities effectively.
In a statement on Wednesday, Mr Gumen said the appointment of the team by President Bola Tinubu was part of efforts to rescue the Nigerian economy from its challenges.
“The CBN’s image was badly battered, so this team that has come on board is a rescue team,” said Mr Gumel. “They have come to rescue the image of the CBN.”
The senator said that apart from Nigerians, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Union (AU) awaited the new management to hit the ground running.
“They are waiting for Nigeria to get the economy back so that everybody will feel secure and happy,” he said.
Mr Gumel lauded the Senate for confirming the appointment of Olayemi Cardoso as the CBN governor and his team on the first day of its plenary after recess.
“The lawmakers told the CBN governor and the deputy governors the feelings of Nigerians, and what they talked to the team about is reflective of what Nigerians feel about the CBN,” he said.
Mr Gumel expressed optimism that other president appointees would be screened and confirmed soon by the Senate.
“We are also expecting the list of about three ministerial nominees from Kaduna, Kwara, and Ondo states,” he stated.
Mr Gumel urged Nigerians to accommodate one another, irrespective of their religious differences.
