Tinubu appoints another Yoruba ally Kayode Opeifa to lead Nigerian railway

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Kayode Opeifa as the managing director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation.
The announcement was confirmed in a statement issued by the Renewed Hope United Kingdom on Wednesday.
However, the presidency has yet to release an official statement on Mr Opeifa’s appointment.
“His appointment has drawn widespread commendation, with many citing his deep understanding of Nigeria’s transportation challenges and his ability to implement sustainable solutions,” the statement read.
The statement further noted that Mr Opeifa’s appointment “reflects the administration’s focus on strengthening key institutions that drive national progress and align with President Tinubu’s vision for a more effective and results.”
Mr Opeifa, a former transportation commissioner in Lagos, took charge of the NRC months after Freeborn Okhiria completed his second tenure in office.
Mr Opeifa’s emergence continues a streak of sectional appointments from Mr Tinubu since he assumed office in May 2023. The president’s personal decisions have been brazenly lopsided towards Nigerians of his ethnic Yoruba stock.
Mr Tinubu has, however, rejected criticism that his government harbours ethnic favouritism for the Yoruba to the detriment of other nationalities.
