Tinubu appoints Olatubosun Oluyede as acting COAS
President Bola Tinubu has appointed Major General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the acting Chief of Army Staff (COAS) in the absence of Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja.
On Wednesday, Bayo Onanuga, spokesperson for the president, disclosed this in a statement.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, has appointed Major General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the acting Chief of Army Staff (COAS),” Mr Onanuga read.
“Oluyede will act in the position pending the return of the indisposed substantive Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja.”
This comes a few days after reports of Mr Lagbaja being hospitalised abroad for an undisclosed ailment.
The Nigerian military had dismissed reports that Mr Lagbaja is in critical condition. However, Mr Tinubu’s appointment of an acting COAS raises concern on Mr Lagbaja’s health.
