Spokesperson for the ruling All Progressives Congress, Felix Morka, on Wednesday said President Bola Tinubu has done better than past presidents in two years.


“This president in two years has done more than all other presidents. In the direction of ordering our priorities, tackling some of these challenges faced by our economy,” Mr Morka said in an interview with Arise TV on Wednesday.

Dismissing critics from opposition politicians planning a coalition to challenge Mr Tinubu in 2027, Mr Morka said “President Tinubu remains focused on matters that guarantee the long-term health of our country.”

He added, “The hue and cry from opposition members such as Rotimi Amaechi, Nasir El-Rufai, or Atiku Abubakar don’t cut it. Because they know in their heart Tinubu is doing exactly what any right-thinking leader would do for Nigeria.”

Mr Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023, two years ago, succeeding his party man, Muhammadu Buhari.

Before Buhari, former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan and the late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, led Nigeria for a period of 16 years under the Peoples Democratic Party since 1999, when Nigeria returned to civil rule.

In the past two years, Mr Tinubu’s policies on fuel subsidy removal and exchange rate unification had led to a significant increase in fuel prices, from N145 to over N1000 and later to about N900, while the naira has collapsed from about N700 to a dollar to over N1600 a dollar.

Similarly, food prices, cost of transportation and cost of living rose in the past two years under the Tinubu administration. 

With inflation at 24 per cent under the Tinubu administration, Nigeria recorded the largest increase in acute food insecurity globally in 2024, according to the 2025 Global Report on Food Crises published by the Global Network Against Food Crises in collaboration with the Food Security Information Network and UNICEF.

“In West Africa and the Sahel, in Nigeria, an additional 6.9 million people faced high levels of acute food insecurity, bringing the total to 31.8 million,” the report said.

The International Monetary Fund reported that poverty and food insecurity remained high under Mr Tinubu’s administration. .

The World Bank’s Africa Pulse report of April 2025 also stated that Nigeria, under the current administration, had the highest number of extremely poor people globally, warning that more Nigerians would be plunged into poverty by 2027.
