President Bola Tinubu has confirmed Wale Adeniyi as the new Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Peoples Gazette has reliably learnt from senior administration officials.

Prior to this, Mr Adeniyi held the position of acting director of Customs since June 19 per the president’s directive.

Before then, he served in the public relations department of the service as the spokesperson from June 2003 to May 2011.

The new customs CG gained prominence in 2020 after he successfully seized over $8 million cash at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, a feat that won him the highly coveted Comptroller-General of Customs Award.

It is unclear why Mr Adeniyi’s confirmation of appointment was hushed, unlike the other heads of government agencies, which has been formally announced by the presidency.
