Tinubu govt calls U.S., Israel, Iran to stop conflict, negotiate; issues advisory for Nigerians in Middle East

The government of President Bola Tinubu has called on the U.S., Israel and Iran to cease fire and return to the negotiation table, issuing an advisory for Nigerians staying in Iran and other Middle East countries amid hostilities.
A statement by the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday said, “The Government of Nigeria wishes to call on parties to the conflict to de-escalate the crisis by returning to the negotiation table for the interests of global peace and coexistence.”
It added, “The Federal Government of Nigeria is closely monitoring the evolving and volatile situation in the Middle East, specifically regarding the military action reportedly undertaken by Israel and the United States against targets in the Islamic Republic of Iran and subsequent retaliatory actions by Iran on targets in some Gulf countries.”
According to the statement, all Nigerians in Iran and affected Gulf countries are advised to remain extremely vigilant and conscious of their surroundings at all times. They should avoid areas known to be strategic, military, or government installations, as these could be potential flashpoints.
It added, “Limit Movement: It is strongly recommended that Nigerians restrict non-essential movement and travel within the countries until the security situation becomes clearer and stabilizes. Avoid large gatherings and public demonstrations.
“Follow Local Directives: Citizens are strongly advised to strictly comply with all security and safety directives issued by the local authorities to ensure their safety. Remember that cooperation with local law enforcement is paramount for safety.”
On Saturday, the U.S. and Iran launched deadly airstrikes on Iran, targeting the office of its Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and nuclear sites.
Amid the attack, American President Donald Trump, in a broadcast, declared that the U.S. is out to eliminate members of Iran’s terrible regime.
Mr Trump said his government is carrying out a “major combat operations” in Iran, urging the citizens to take over the government.
“Our objective is to defend the American people by eliminating threats from the Iranian regime, a vicious group of very hard terrible people,” Mr Trump said. “When we are finished, take over your government. It will be yours to take. This will be probably your only chance for generations.”
