Tinubu govt closes over 40 Federal Unity Colleges amid widespread mass abductions of schoolchildren

President Bola Tinubu’ government has announced closure of 41 Federal Unity Colleges amid widespread mass abductions of schoolchildren by terrorists.

This directive was issued through a circular dated November 21, 2025, from the Federal Ministry of Education. 

This follows terrorists abduction of 25 schoolgirls in Maga, Kebbi State on Monday and abduction of students and staff of another St Mary’s school in Papiri, Niger State on Friday

The directive closing the schools, signed by Binta Abdulkadir, director of senior secondary education, cited  “recent security challenges in some parts of the country and the need to prevent any security breaches.”

The ministry listed all the 41 schools in states across the North-West, North-East, North-Central and parts of the South as follows:
