Deputy foreign affairs minister, Sola Enikanolaiye, has presented Letters of Credence to Nigeria’s ambassadors-designate and high commissioners-designate to Trinidad and Tobago, Kenya, Equatorial Guinea and Egypt.

According to a statement on Tuesday, the presentation of the letters on Monday followed the host countries’ agreement, which formally accepted the envoys as Nigeria’s principal diplomatic representatives.

It said that, out of the 69 ambassadors appointed by President Bola Tinubu, Nigeria had so far received agreements from the countries to which 63 have been posted.

The foreign affairs ministry disclosed that several ambassadors, including those assigned to India and South Africa, have already left for their duty posts to begin their diplomatic assignments.

“The ministry is optimistic that the remaining countries will likewise convey their acceptance of the ambassadors posted to their capitals to consolidate cordial diplomatic relations with Nigeria,” the statement added.

The issuance of an agreement by host countries is a key diplomatic requirement that precedes the formal assumption of duties by ambassadors and high commissioners.
