Tinubu hails peaceful APC presidential primaries, internal democracy

President Bola Tinubu, on Saturday, commended the conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primaries, describing the exercise as peaceful, transparent and a demonstration of internal democracy.
Mr Tinubu spoke after participating in the exercise held at Ward E, Ikoyi, Lagos, where thousands of party members had gathered for the presidential primary election.
The president commended party members, governors and officials for the orderly conduct of the exercise across the country.
“This is a demonstration of internal democracy and it has been going very well according to plan.
“This is politics, grassroots politics, where every member of the party has a right to participate and be involved. It is to ensure internal democracy and it is peaceful and well-organised,” Mr Tinubu said.
The president also expressed satisfaction with the preparations and coordination by APC governors and party leaders ahead of the nationwide exercise.
“Today, I am very satisfied that these governors have done well in their various states.
“From the ward congresses to local government congresses, delegate accreditation, validation, members’ register and certification of the electoral process, it has all gone very well.
“At least, you will score democracy at a high level,” the president said
Reacting to the massive turnout of supporters at his polling ward, Mr Tinubu expressed appreciation to party faithful for their continued support and enthusiasm.
“I’m just excited,” the president said.
Saturday’s presidential primaries held simultaneously across all 8,809 wards nationwide as the APC moves to elect its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
Under the procedure approved by the party, every registered APC member at the ward level was eligible to vote directly for the presidential aspirant of choice.
The process marked a departure from the traditional delegate-based system previously used for presidential nominations within the party.
Results from the wards are expected to be collated at local government and state levels before final submission to the APC Presidential Primary Election Committee in Abuja.
