Tinubu mourns ex-lawmaker Adeniyi, lauds democratic footprints

President Bola Tinubu has mourned the passing of ex-lawmaker Anthony Adeniyi. He described the deceased as a steadfast democrat whose commitment to public service and democratic governance left an enduring legacy.
Mr Adeniyi, a former senator who represented Ekiti South senatorial district between 2011 and 2015, died at 75.
In a statement issued by its presidential spokesperson on Thursday, Mr Tinubu said Mr Adeniyi’s passing marked the end of an era defined by principled leadership, patriotism and unwavering dedication to democracy.
Acknowledging the politician’s role as chairman of the South West Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA) in Ekiti, the president lauded the deceased’s unwavering commitment to democratic development in the country.
“Throughout his life, Senator Adeniyi never wavered in his belief that democracy remains the surest path to national development. His commitment was demonstrated not only in words but also in action.
“As a leader of SWAGA, he devoted immense resources, energy, and organisational capacity to our electoral victory in 2023, playing a significant role in strengthening the democratic process,” Mr Tinubu said.
The president condoled with the deceased’s family, the progressive political family, and his associates, saying his legacy of service, sacrifice, integrity, and commitment to democracy would continue to inspire future generations.
