Tinubu on right path; one year not enough for thorough assessment of his government: Stakeholders

Some stakeholders in the Ikorodu area of Lagos state have urged Nigerians to exercise patience with President Bola Tinubu’s administration, as one year is not enough for an assessment.
They spoke in separate interviews in Lagos on Sunday.
Asipa Olusanya, the deputy chairman of APC in Ikorodu, said Mr Tinubu’s robust and encompassing Renewed Hope Agenda manifesto would be achieved.
According to him, the agenda shows a lot of promise; specifically, the thrust is to build Nigeria, especially for the youths, where graduates will be employed with decent wages.
Mr Olusanya stressed that the Renewed Hope Agenda promises to assist farmers through enlightened agricultural policies and promote the digital economy and e-commerce to empower and train youths in digital technology.
“Today, we see China and all the big countries now engaging in artificial intelligence that can even predict what’s happening. All these are embraced in the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“In all this, one may not be able to arrive at a very objective and analytical assessment to predict the performance delivery to meet the spectrum of the people you want in one year.
“The first thing is to look at the foundation of government, to look at the structure of governance, to look at reform gaps, so in terms of assessment, I will say it may be too early to assess the government in just one year,” he said.
Similarly, Kayode Olomo, the baale of Ojogbe in Ikorodu, also urged the public to be patient, stating that the removal of fuel subsidies may have resulted in serious inflation and a harsh economy but will balance soon.
Mr Olomo, however, urged Mr Tinubu to initiate a drastic measure to curtail the cabals that had destroyed the nation’s economy through embezzlement and the milking of its resources.
He said, “I am of the opinion that this present administration is tolling the right path and I appeal to people to be patient because a year is not enough to assess its performance.
“The only mistake of the administration was announcing the removal of fuel subsidy without properly planning how to cushion the effects on the citizenry.”
Also, Bukola Osho, the Iyaloja of Ikorodu central, said the administration was doing its best to revamp the economy while some exploited it for personal gains.
She urged the federal government to set up a price regulatory body, adding that some marketers used the opportunity to increase commodity prices despite the harsh economy affecting every Nigerian.
Ms Osho urged Nigerians to exercise patience with the present administration, pointing out that some people are working to sabotage the administration’s efforts.
“I have no doubts about President Bola Tinubu, but I am worried by the cabals sabotaging his efforts.
“There should be a price control mechanism to curtail artificial inflation created by some manufacturers who want to maximise profit, thereby imposing more hardship on the public,” she said.
Also, Adeyemi Osho, a civil servant, said the removal of subsidies had devastating effects on Nigerians, resulting in an inflation of about 200 per cent on commodities while civil servants’ salaries remained the same.
Funmilayo Adaranijo also advised Nigerians not to doubt the pedigree of the president, whom she described as a thoroughbred politician and economist who has prepared for a way to make Nigeria better.
She urged Nigerians to cooperate with the government as it tackles the problems headlong to make the country a better place.
