Guinness record holder and chess coach, Tunde Onakoya, paid a visit to President Bola Tinubu at his Lagos residence on Monday.

Mr Tinubu in a post shared on X hailed the Chess in Slums Africa founder and Guinness record holder for his outstanding contribution to society through chess and his positive portrayal of Nigeria globally.

He said, “I received Tunde Onakoya, founder of Chess in Slums Africa, at my residence today where he also presented his World Record for the longest Chess Marathon. Tunde’s journey, from the streets of Lagos to uplifting underserved children and breaking world records, reflects the resilience and brilliance of Nigeria’s youth.’’

Mr Tinubu further hailed Mr Onakoya for transforming the lives of children in slum communities through chess.

“Through chess, he opens minds and transforms lives in communities that are too often overlooked”, Mr Tinubu noted, adding that his administration would love to see how the chess sensation’s work could be replicated nationwide.

Mr Tinubu said that he was “looking forward to seeing” Mr Onakoya in Abuja to hear how the government could support him.

“Tunde Onakoya’s vision aligns with our administration’s: no child left behind, no talent wasted. Nigeria is proud of him, and we will walk with him.”, the president noted.

Meanwhile, Mr Onakoya also posted a picture of himself and the president, appreciating him for the warm reception at his residence in Lagos.

“Honoured to have been graciously received by His Excellency, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” said Mr Onakoya, who is the chess World Record holder for the longest marathon.

“Grateful for the time, listening ear and kind invitation to Abuja to share our vision: to build the Largest Chess/STEM institute in the world. A place where children regardless of background can dream, learn and become”, he added.

Mr Onakoya in the pictures shared on his X platform was seen presenting a “gold plated Adire Chess board and the world record certificate” to Mr Tinubu.
