Tinubu should resign, too old to remain Nigeria’s president; may die in office: Shan George

“But at this point, even he should on his own step down without being told. It’s honourable to leave the stage when there’s still some applause, loud or not,” said Ms George.

Nollywood actress Shan George has called on President Bola Tinubu to resign, warning of potential death in a bid to remain in power.

In a Facebook post shared on Monday, Ms George spoke on Mr Tinubu’s years as Lagos governor.

“I remember when Tinubu was Lagos state governor, he did with Lagos what Otti is currently doing in Abia state. At that time, OBJ was the president and was having some political disagreements with Tinubu, yet Tinubu forged on and carried Lagos state with a lot of grace and panache, turning the city into an even better place than he met it, building MM2, dualising Allen Avenue and many other roads inside Lagos.

“He cleared the streets of area boys and created LASTMA, among many other good works, without much support from the federal government. It was a good time to live in Lagos then. Lagosians loved Tinubu. And so, I believe that’s d yardstick he was measured with, while weighing him for d kind of capacity needed for d role of a president.”

Ms George, however, noted that Mr Tinubu, as president, is different from the one who was once Lagos governor.

“But the president we are seeing now makes me wonder, where is the Tinubu we used to know? The Tinubu who stood and protested and won against many past bad governance right from when I was still wearing diapers? The Tinubu, who fought OBJ hands down and made Lagos a heaven? The real City Boy, what happened?

The actress pointed out that the ravages of old age have limited what Mr Tinubu can do as a president.

“In my opinion, AGE happened, which is a natural call and should not be faulted. His lifelong desire and goal have always been to become the president of Nigeria. Hence, the EMILOKAN surge, quite understandable. He got it, and that’s great. But at this point, even he should on his own step down without being told. It’s honourable to leave the stage when there’s still some applause, loud or not.

“But his cronies won’t tell him now. Their gains in it won’t let them until they push him to work himself to kpai (death), because being the president of Nigeria, the GIANT of AFRICA, is not moimoi (child’s play), baba should just resign now.

The presidency did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Ms George’s call for resignation.

Meanwhile, some Facebook users have defended Mr Tinubu’s performance while others backed the actress’ statement.

A user, Bosun Wealth, said, “As the president, Tinubu has done a lot of what is required of him and beyond what any president before him has ever attempted.”

Orji Goodness Agatha praised the actress for speaking up, saying, “God bless you for speaking up.”

Tunde Dammy said her criticism was politically sponsored, while Evangelist Kelechukwu said the president was unlikely to resign because he was “enjoying himself in his retirement home”.

The 55-year-old actress claimed that she was not a member of any political party and was not supporting any presidential candidate, insisting she was only speaking as “a good citizen bearing her mind respectfully”.
