Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo has advised President Bola Tinubu to ensure his administration birth a new “constitutional order” that would reflect the principles of federalism in the country as takes charge of power.

Mr Akeredolu gave the admonition in a message to congratulate Mr Tinubu and his Vice, Kashim Shettima, who took the oath of office as the 16th President of Nigeria, on Monday.

“The new administration has its jobs well defined, the very first being the urgent need to assisting in birthing a new constitutional order which takes into account, keenly, the principles of federalism,” the governor said in the excerpts of the message obtained by Peoples Gazette.

Mr Tinubu was sworn into office as President, Commander-In-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Kayode Ariwoola, at Eagle Square.

Mr Akeredolu noted that the success that would be recorded in amending the 1999 constitution for the interest of Nigerians would largely determine the depth of governance in Mr Tinubu’s new government.

The Ondo governor added that people should anticipate “active participation” in Mr Tinubu’s government which he affirmed would also coordinate proper revenue generation and secure the lives and properties of the citizens.

“The success recorded at fixing the basic defects in the 1999 Constitution, As Amended, will determine, largely, the pattern and the depth of the deliberative governance designed to achieve development. All existential issues will be addressed realistically. It is our duty to encourage the new government to tread this honourable path,” he said.

While congratulating the new President for his resilience, equanimity, doggedness and uncommon tenacity to achieve his set objectives, Mr Akeredolu said there is no doubt that Mr Tinubu would deliver on his mandate considering his record of service as former governor of Lagos.

He said, “I have no doubt that Mr President is ready to deliver on this mandate of rectitude. His record of service in Lagos State leaves no room for any doubt concerning his capacity to turn things around positively. The Federal Government should expect robust engagements from the Government and people of Ondo State who expressed confidence in the new leadership through the overwhelming support given the President at the last presidential election.”

“I, on behalf of the Government and the people of Ondo State, join other party leaders and members to congratulate the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the successful take-over of the mantle of leadership.

“We wish the President a successful tenure”, Mr Akeredolu added.
