Deputy foreign affairs minister Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu has said that the recent state visit of President Bola Tinubu to the United Kingdom marks a strategic reset in Nigeria-UK relations.

Ms Odumegwu-Ojukwu said this in a statement on Monday against the backdrop of the takeaways from the state visit by the president alongside his wife, Oluremi Tinubu, on March 18 and 19.

There was also a high-level governmental meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at Downing Street, the seat of the British government.

According to her, full British hospitality was on display in honour of the president and his wife, who were hosted by the royal family at Windsor Castle.

Ms Odumegwu-Ojukwu explained that the high-level diplomatic recognition signified a strategic reset in bilateral ties, with a focus on economic, trade, and security cooperation.

She highlighted investment opportunities arising from the visit across mining, energy, infrastructure, agriculture, manufacturing, fintech, among other sectors, saying such opportunities bolstered Nigeria’s image and strengthened its role as a key African partner for the UK.

This, according to her, was the history and culture of Nigeria that took the global stage during the visit.
