Tinubu’s wife donates N100 million to victims of Niger tanker explosion

The governor appreciated the wife of the president’s personal visit, saying it was a morale booster for the people of the state.

Wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated N100 million to victims of tanker explosion in Niger State.

She announced the donation when she visited the Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, at the Government House in Minna on Tuesday, to commiserate with him over the recent tanker explosion in the state.

The tanker explosion which occurred on January 18 at Diko-Maje Road in the Gurara Local Government Area of the state claimed many lives and injured others.

Mrs Tinubu said the donation was aimed at supporting families affected by the tanker explosion at Diko-Junction.

She said, “We are looking at supporting about 70 families through the governor’s wife, Hajiya Fatima Bago, with each family receiving N1 million to help them settle. The remaining money will cover extra expenses like food items.’’

She commended the governor’s efforts in rehabilitating the affected families and lauded his administration’s strides in agriculture.

Responding, Mr Bago expressed gratitude to Mrs Tinubu for her visit to the state to commiserate with the people over recent losses.

The governor appreciated the wife of the president’s personal visit, saying it was a morale booster for the people of the state.

He said, “The visit will serve as a morale booster to people who have been affected by the tanker explosion at Diko-Junction. We appreciate your widow’s mite, for donating N100 million through my wife to support the victims’ families.’’

Wife of the president had earlier paid a private visit to former military rulers, Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar.

The first lady was accompanied by Hajiya Nana Shettima, wife of the vice president alongside the wife of the Niger State governor, Fatima Bago.
