Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan is through to Thursday’s women’s 100m hurdles final after finishing first in Heat 2 of the semi-finals in 12.56s on Wednesday evening, Peoples Gazette can confirm.

The current world record holder started the race on the back foot but did well to recover and overturn Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent’s early lead. Nugent, who is the reigning NCAA champion, clocked 12.60s to settle for second place.

Former world record holder Kendra Harrison of the United States clocked 12.33s to win the semifinals Heat 1 while Puerto Rica’s Jasmine Camacho-Quinn clinched the Heat 3 top spot in 12.41s.

Amusan will return to the track on Thursday night to defend the world title she won in Eugene, United States, last year. The 26-year-old will compete against seven other elite runners in a final showdown expected to be a tough one.
