China’s senior most general, Zhang Youxia, is being investigated for allegedly leaking China’s nuclear-weapon information to the U.S. and taking bribes for official acts, Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday.

Mr Youxia, the report said, “is accused of leaking information about the country’s nuclear-weapons program to the U.S.”

The army general is also being investigated for “accepting bribes for official acts, including the promotion of an officer to a defence minister.

Citing people familiar with a high-level briefing on the allegations, the newspaper said Mr Youxia was under investigation for accepting bribes to facilitate promotions, including making Li Shangfu, fired for corruption in 2023, a defence minister.

According to WSJ, the briefing—attended on Saturday by some of the military’s highest-ranking officers—came just before China’s Ministry of National Defense dropped the bombshell announcing Mr Youxia’s probe, once considered Chinese leader Xi Jinping’s trusted military ally.
