The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency has mandated its area and divisional commanders to ensure zero tolerance for driving against traffic.

The Chief Executive Officer of TRACE, Commander Seni Ogunyemi, made this known at a news conference in Sango-Ota, Ogun, on Thursday.

Mr Ogunyemi said that he would hold the officers responsible for inadequate enforcement of the traffic rule.

He said that driving against traffic, also known as one-way driving, was perpetrated mostly at Odogboku, Lafarge axis and Ewekoro.

He added that it was recklessly done on Sagamu Interchange, Sango Idiroko Road, Imowo and Eleran, Ijebu-Ibadan Expressway and Ilo-Awella in Ota.

He implored the public to stop encouraging recalcitrant drivers to flout traffic rules by pleading on their behalf when arrested.

“Our experience is that most of the drivers apprehended are not new offenders. They have become recalcitrant and deliberately flout traffic rules as they are aware that someone will plead for a waiver of penalty on their behalf.

The public should stop begging on behalf of these offenders. Imposing stiff punishments on such drivers will serve as a deterrent to others,” he said.

Mr Ogunyemi expressed worry that drivers assault TRACE operatives discouraging them from flouting traffic rules.

He reiterated the commitment of TRACE to collaborate with other agencies to continue to ensure safety on roads.
