Trader in court over alleged N3 million fraud

A 40-year-old trader, Rotimi Kamalo, was on Thursday arraigned before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State, over alleged N3 million fraud.
The defendant, whose address was not given, is facing a three-count charge bordering on felony, advance fee fraud and conversion of others property to personal use.
The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Ayodeji Omoyeigha, told the court that the defendant and one other at large on November 22 2023, around 10am at Kiribo in Igbekebo magisterial district conspired to commit felony.
Mr Orogbemi said that the defendant fraudulently obtained the sum of N3 million from Gbenga Ogundowo with false pretence of supplying him jerry cans of palm oil without doing so.
He added that the offences contravened and punishable under Sections 517, 419 and 390(9), Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
The Chief Magistrate, Patrick Ajele, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500, 000 and two sureties in like sums.
He added that the sureties, who must reside within the court jurisdiction, must also show current evidence of two years tax payment to the state government.
He adjourned the case until August 2, for further hearing.
