A Magistrates’ Court in Jos, Plateau State, on Wednesday, sentenced a 20-year old trader, Abbas Mohammed, to one-year imprisonment for stealing a sheep from a house.

The convict pleaded guilty to theft and also for having a bunch of keys which he used in gaining access to various houses.

After listening to Mohammed’s guilty plea, Magistrate Shawomi Bokkos, summarily sentenced him to one-year imprisonment or a fine of N100,000.

He said the judgment would serve as a deterrent to those who would want to indulge in such illegal acts.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Inspector Ibrahim Gokwat told the court that the case was reported on January 9, at the Mista-Ali Police station by the complainant, Abdul Mohammed.

Mr Gokwat said that the convict had a bunch of keys he carried around to steal from houses in the neighbourhood.

He said the convict was caught with the sheep and was arrested during a police investigation.

He said the convict committed the offence punishable under the provisions of the Plateau Penal Code Law.
