A traditional leader in Ikorodu Division of Lagos State, Adeniyi Ajayi, Eletu of Okeletu, has appealed to the state government to construct roads and other development projects in the Okeletu community.

Mr Ajayi made the appeal during his installation as the traditional leader of the Okeletu community (Baale of Okeletu) on Saturday in Ikorodu.

The chairman of the Ikorodu Division Council of Obas and Chiefs, Oba Kabiru Shotobi, Ayangburen of Ikorodu, presided over the installation ceremony.

Mr Ajayi was also inducted into the council at the ceremony.

The traditional leader noted that Okeletu, which shares boundaries with Egbin and Ijede communities, lacked roads, health facilities, a police station, abattoirs, markets and other amenities despite its huge population.

He, therefore, called on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to respond to the yearnings of Okeletu residents for development by bringing the government’s presence to the community.

“My mission as the Eletu of Okeletu is to lobby and bring the government’s presence to our community so that our people can enjoy the dividends of democracy.

“We will make efforts to liaise with our National Assembly representatives, the duo of Sen. Tokunbo Abiru and Rep. Babajimi Benson, to facilitate development in the community.

“Now that I have been inducted as a member of the council of traditional heads in Ikorodu and I have been given a staff of office, I will facilitate the development of this area,” Mr Ajayi said.

He thanked Mr Shotobi for his support and approval of his installation as the traditional leader of Okeletu.

Mr Ajayi promised to serve the people and abide by all the rules guiding his new office.

He called for support from residents to address the security challenges in the community and Ikorodu Division.

“We have to work together with the government to ensure that insecurity becomes a thing of the past.

“State police are the solution; our local vigilantes have been in existence for a long time and they quite understand the terrain,” he said.

Speaking, Mr Shotobi, on behalf of other traditional rulers, advised the newly inducted Eletu to lead his people with the fear of God and in accordance with the rules guiding his new office.
