Traditional rulers urge military to provide more security cover for Abuja

The Ona of Abaji and chairman of the FCT Council of Chiefs, Adamu Baba, has called on the Defence Headquarters to make Abuja safer by deploying more troops across the territory.
Army spokesman Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau said in a statement that the Abuja ruler made the call during a courtesy call by FCT traditional rulers on the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, on Thursday in Abuja.
According to the statement, Mr Baba explained that the visit was to appreciate the CDS and the armed forces’ dedication to fighting insecurity in the nation, particularly in Abuja.
He also expressed concern over the increasing rate of criminality, particularly the ‘one chance’ criminals in Abuja, while calling on the military to help curtail the scourge.
The defence chief thanked the traditional rulers for the visit and called on them to sensitise their subjects to support the security agencies with actionable information.
According to him, security is everybody’s business. Hence, the Abuja traditional rulers need to sensitise their subjects to “see something and say something” to enable the military to take decisive actions.
Mr Musa also implored the traditional leaders to take community policing seriously to address issues of crimes in Abuja.
