Tragedy in Daura: 20-year-old nabbed for bludgeoning her 97-year-old grandmother to death

The police command in Katsina arrested Aisha Hassan, a 20-year-old woman, for causing the death of her 97-year-old grandmother, Hajiya Ummukhulsum, in Daura LGA.
In a statement by the command’s spokesman, Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, on Wednesday, the death occurred on June 12 at about 7:00 p.m. This happened when the suspect allegedly had a misunderstanding with her paternal grandmother, Ummukhulsum Hassan.
Mr Sadiq-Aliyu said the suspect allegedly struck the elderly woman on the head with a wooden stool during the altercation.
He said the matter was reported to the Sabon Garin Daura Police Station by the suspect’s father, Muktar Muhammad-Hassan, on the same day.
According to Mr Sadiq-Aliyu, police operatives immediately visited the scene and found the victim unconscious in a pool of blood.
“The victim was rushed to a hospital but was later confirmed dead by the doctor on duty,” he said.
The police spokesman said the suspect was arrested during the investigation and allegedly confessed to committing the offence.
He added that the suspect remained in police custody and would be charged upon completion of the investigation.
