Treasurer arraigned for stealing cooperative’s N3 million

A 45-year-old treasurer, Aminu Nurudern, was arraigned on Wednesday before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for allegedly stealing N2.7 million belonging to Owowunmi Cooperative Thrift and Loan Credit.
Mr Nurudern, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a two-count charge of stealing and conspiracy.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The police prosecutor, E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant and others still at large committed the offences between February 2022 and August 2023 in the Idi-Orogbo area, along Lafenwa, Itele-Awori, and Ota.
Mr. Adaraloye alleged that the defendant and his accomplice conspired to steal N2.7 million, which was the money contributed by members and intended for the headquarters of the Owowunmi Cooperative Thrift and Loan Credit Society.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 383(1) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The magistrate, O.O. Fadairo, granted the defendant bail of N1 million with one surety in like sum.
Ms Fadairo said that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to the Ogun government.
The case was adjourned until November 24 for further hearing.
