A 27-year-old driver, Aigboboh Obiho, on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court over the alleged killing of a 68-year-old pedestrian.

Obiho, whose address was not provided, is facing a three-count charge of careless driving, invalid rider permit and manslaughter.

The Magistrate, L.A Owolabi, did not, however, take the defendant’s plea for want of jurisdiction.

The Prosecutor, Supol Ikhayere, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on July 2 at 7:25 p.m. at Oba Akaran Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos.

Ikhayere said that the defendant drove in a careless and inconsiderate manner and knocked down a pedestrian, Olatunji Ajagunjeun, 68, which caused his death.

According to her, the offences contravene Sections 50, 9A(161) and 52 of the Transport Reform Law, 2018.

The magistrate adjourned the case till September 4, for advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
