Troops of Fansan Yamma have foiled two abduction attempts by bandits and rescued 10 victims in different locations across Zamfara State.

A statement on Monday by Aliyu Danja, the spokesman for the operation, said the troops received information on Sunday that terrorists had abducted some residents of Kade Daba Village, Kanoma District. 

“Troops swiftly mobilised to the location and engaged the terrorists, resulting in the immediate rescue of three victims”, he said. 

He said that further exploitation of the area led to the rescue of an additional victim, bringing the total number of victims rescued in the operation to four.

Mr Danja said that on the same day, troops picketing an operation along the Tsafe–Funtua road in Tsafe Local Government Area heard sporadic gunshots ahead of their position at Kwanoni. 

“The troops immediately mobilised towards the location, where they encountered the terrorists withdrawing through the surrounding high ground,” he said. 

According to him, the troops engaged the terrorists, forcing them to flee the area in disarray.

Mr Danja said before the arrival of the troops, the terrorists had set a Sharon vehicle ablaze while attempting to abduct its occupants. 

“Fortunately, the occupants were able to escape before the vehicle was completely engulfed by fire. In the course of the incident, the troops also rescued six persons from another vehicle that had lost control as a result of the sporadic gunshots,” he said. 

He added that the affected vehicle was towed off the main road to keep traffic flowing.
