Troops kill insurgent, rescue three kidnap victims in ongoing Zamfara bandits’ camps raid

The Nigerian Army says troops of Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, have killed a terrorist, rescued three kidnap victims, and destroyed a bandits’ camp during ongoing operations in Zamfara State.
This is contained in an operational report made available to journalists on Saturday in Abuja.
The report said the operation was conducted on June 12, across communities in Zurmi and Shinkafi Local Government Areas as part of efforts to combat banditry and other criminal activities.
According to the report, troops on a fighting patrol covering Birnin Saba, Yanbuki, and Sabon Garin Daudawa made contact with terrorists operating in Yanbuki District of Zurmi LGA.
It stated that troops engaged the terrorists in a firefight, neutralising one of them while others fled.
The report said troops recovered rifles, four magazines loaded with ammunition, two motorcycles, seven mobile phones, two MP3 players, a woodland camouflage trouser, and an inner vest from the scene.
According to the report, the troops maintained pressure on the fleeing terrorists and advanced toward Sabon Garin Daudawa community.
It added that the terrorists abandoned their camp and fled on sighting the advancing troops.
The report said troops subsequently cleared the area and destroyed the camp to deny the criminals a haven for future operations.
It further disclosed that troops rescued three kidnap victims during clearance operations in the area and evacuated them to safety.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations across Zamfara State and the wider North-West until terrorist and bandit groups are dismantled and peace restored to affected communities.
