Troops of Fansan Yamma have killed scores of terrorists and intercepted a large cache of ammunition during separate operations in Zamfara and Kaduna States.

A statement on Wednesday by Aliyu Danja, the spokesman for the operation, said the operations were conducted on Wednesday.

“Acting on credible intelligence regarding the movement of terrorists from the Fakai General Area towards Kwanar Jolof and Tashar Dole in Shinkafi and Zurmi Local Government Areas, ambushed the terrorists at Kwanar Jolof,” he said.

He stated that troops engaged the terrorists, neutralising scores of them, while others fled in disarray.

“Exploitation of the general area led to the recovery of one rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) launcher, one RPG bomb, one AK-47 rifle, six AK-47 magazines, 106 rounds of ammunition and one motorcycle, among other items,” Mr Danja said.

He said that on the same day, troops of Sector 1 intercepted a vehicle at a snap checkpoint along the Saulawa – Zaria Road in Kaduna State.

“During the search, one of the passengers resisted inspection of his bag and attempted to escape after being compelled to open it. Troops subsequently pursued and neutralised the suspect,” he said.

Mr Danja noted that a subsequent search of the bag uncovered 793 rounds of ammunition concealed inside gari.

He added that the vehicle and its driver are currently in military custody for further investigation.
