In a vigorous crackdown on immigration, President Donald Trump’s administration has revoked more than 250,000 visas of foreign nationals for various reasons, ranging from violations of visa terms and involvement in crimes to calls for violence against the U.S., among others.

Tommy Pigott, spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, in an interview with FOX News on Wednesday, explained that the revocations were for a variety of violations.

“Under President Trump and Secretary Rubio, the State Department has now revoked more than 250,000 visas — a historic milestone that reflects our unwavering commitment to protecting the American people,” Mr Pigott said.

The State Department spokesperson said the U.S. was carrying out rigorous visa vetting on a scale never seen before to revoke the visas of foreign nationals who violate U.S. laws or pose threats to America’s safety.

“Every visa decision is a national security decision. Through continuous vetting on a scale never seen before, we are identifying and removing those who commit crimes, support terrorism, defraud Americans, or abuse our immigration system,” said Mr Pigott.

He added, “A U.S. visa is a privilege, not a right — and if you violate the terms of that privilege, you will lose it. We will not stop until every foreign national who threatens the safety of our communities is held accountable.”

Since Mr Trump made his second return to the White House, he has championed a vehement crackdown on illegal immigration, pushing for birthright citizenship to be terminated.

Though the court has opposed his push to cancel birthright citizenship, the Trump administration has clamped down on commercial birth tourism.

The State Department on Monday revoked the visas of 27 Latin American officials, including officials from Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, as well as former officials and their families, over accusations of corruption.
