U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed an executive order banning transgender student athletes from participating in women’s sports.

“With this executive order, the war on women’s sports is over,” Mr Trump said at the signing of the order ceremony.

In follow-up comments on Truth Social, Mr Trump said that with the executive order, “war on women sport is over,” warning government-funded schools against violating the order.

“We are putting every school receiving taxpayer dollars on notice: If you let men take over women’s sports teams or invade your locker rooms, you will be investigated for violations of Title IX and risk your federal funding,” Mr Trump said.
