Trump declares himself Venezuela’s acting president in social media post

President Donald Trump on Sunday stirred reactions by posting a fake Wikipedia page, portraying himself as “acting president of Venezuela.”
Mr Trump posted his official portrait, declaring himself the acting Venezuelan president, a week after the country’s President Nicolas Maduro was captured and moved to the U.S. to face trial for drug trafficking.
“Acting president of Venezuela, incumbent 2026. 45th and 47th president of the United States, assumed office January 20, 2025,” the inscription on the fake Wikipedia page reads.
On Saturday, Mr Trump teased Secretary of State Marco Rubio that the rumour of him being made president of Cuba “sounds good.”
Mr Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were captured by U.S. forces last Saturday and moved to America to face trial on drug trafficking-related charges.
Appearing in court last Monday, Mr Maduro pleaded not guilty, arguing he was kidnapped from Venezuela by Mr Trump.
