President Donald Trump, on Wednesday, said the ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran had ended hours after the American military launched what it described as retaliatory attacks on the Islamic Republic.

The U.S. Central Command confirmed on Tuesday that its forces struck over 80 targets in Iran, citing attacks by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

“U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces completed a new round of offensive strikes against Iran on July 7, hitting over 80 targets with precision munitions as an immediate response to Iran’s latest attacks on commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

“U.S. forces struck Iranian air defence systems, command and control networks, coastal radar sites, anti-ship missile capabilities, and more than 60 Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps small boats in and near the strait to degrade Iran’s ability to continue attacking international commerce flowing through the international trade corridor,” CENTCOM said in a statement.

Responding to questions about the matter at the ongoing NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, on Wednesday, Mr Trump stated that he considered the ceasefire between Washington and Tehran over, while calling the Iranians sick individuals.

“It’s a very interesting question. To me, I think it’s over. I don’t want to deal with them. They’re scum. They’re sick people. They’re led by sick people. As far as I’m concerned, it’s just a waste of time dealing with them,” Mr Trump said.

Meanwhile, the IRGC disclosed on Wednesday that it targeted U.S. military sites in Bahrain and Kuwait and that it had shot down a U.S. MQ-9 drone attempting to interfere in the operation.
