‘Trump threatening democracy, we must stop him,’ Biden begs for donations

Former U.S. President Donald Trump is a threat to democracy, says incumbent President Joe Biden, who is soliciting funds to stop his predecessor from being elected in the November 5 presidential election.
Sharing a link to his campaign donation portal on X Friday, Mr Biden wrote, “Donald Trump is threatening our democracy. First, he questioned our election system. Then, he questioned our judicial system.”
Mr Biden’s campaign donation portal had Mr Trump’s photo as its thumbnail, with the inscriptions, “Save democracy, stop Trump, donate.”
A call for donations on the website further reads, “We must stop Donald Trump. Trump and his MAGA extremist allies pose an existential threat to the future of our democracy and our nation. We’re counting on this team to invest in the necessary resources to stop him. Donate now.”
Meanwhile, Mr Trump’s campaign raked in almost $35 million six hours after a jury on Thursday convicted him on a 34-count charge of concealing payment and information about an alleged sexual indiscretion to porn star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 presidential polls.
Moments after he was convicted, Mr Trump dismissed his conviction as a “rigged trial by a corrupt judge.”
“This was a disgrace,” Mr Trump said. “This was a rigged trial by a conflicted judge who is corrupt.”
He added, “The real verdict is going to be November 5 by the people. And they know what happened here, and everybody knows what happened here.”
Mr Trump will be sentenced on July 11, four days before the Republican convention, where he is expected to be chosen as his party’s nominee for the presidential election.
