U.S. President-elect Donald Trump is expected to announce longtime adviser Stephen Miller as White House deputy chief of staff for policy.

According to CNN, two sources familiar with the plans confirmed it.

Mr Miller, a longtime advisor and key figure in Mr Trump’s political circle, will take on an expanded role in shaping the administration’s policies, particularly around immigration.

Mr Miller first entered national politics in 2009 as a press secretary for then-Senator Jeff Sessions, where his sharp focus on immigration control caught the attention of the Trump campaign.

After that, he rose to national prominence during Mr Trump’s 2016 campaign, where he served as a senior adviser and lead speechwriter.

Known for his hardline views, particularly on immigration, he was a major architect of some of the most controversial policies of Mr Trump’s first term, including the travel ban targeting predominantly Muslim countries and the administration’s family separation policy at the U.S.-Mexico border.

A staunch advocate of a more restrictive immigration approach, Mr Miller’s influence on Mr Trump’s policy direction is clear, and he has remained an integral part of his inner circle.

Even during Mr Trump’s rallies in recent months, Mr Miller became increasingly visible as a speaker and in behind-the-scenes strategy.

As Mr Trump prepares for his second term, Miller’s involvement is expected to be crucial in shaping policy decisions across the board, especially on immigration, law enforcement, and national security.

His appointment would ensure continuity of the nationalist agenda that defined Mr Trump’s first term, focusing on tightening immigration controls and asserting stricter law enforcement measures.
