Foreign affairs minister Yusuf Tuggar says establishing a performance management system will help advance effectiveness and efficiency in diplomatic service.

Mr Tuggar disclosed this during the inauguration and sensitisation ceremony of the system in foreign affairs ministry in Abuja.

According to him, the system represents a bold step toward aligning the ministry’s institutional goals with national priorities, promoting excellence, and ensuring fairness in staff performance evaluation.

Mr Tuggar said, “This is by introducing regular periodic performance appraisals and dialogues, implementing effective incentive consequential management systems and performance improvement plans.

“Such as incorporating employer development objectives and management components, like career objectives, interest, and motivation in performance plans.

“This is also critical to strengthening our ministry’s role as a role model of progressive diplomacy and advancing Nigeria’s global standing.”

He further urged the ministry’s staff to embrace the initiative fully, saying such would enhance the culture of innovation in the place, which he described as a beacon of excellence in public service.

The ministry’s permanent secretary, Dunoma Ahmed, said the system “is the cornerstone of a deliberate effort by the federal government” to ensure public service operates at the highest efficiency and effectiveness standards.

“This system is a medium by which we can accurately assess, guide, and enhance the performance of our workforce, as well as align individual contributions with our overall national goals,” Mr Ahmed added.
