Burna Boy to perform at 2024 Grammys
The Afro-fusion musician Damini Ebunoluwa, popularly known as Burna Boy, will perform at the 2024 Grammy Awards, scheduled to take place on February 4th in Los Angeles.
The Recording Academy announced this information via its Instagram handle on Monday. Burna Boy is set to share the stage with artists such as Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, and Olivia Rodrigo during the event.
The self-proclaimed African Giant won a Grammy award in 2021 for his album “Twice as Tall” as the Best Global Music Album. He will perform on the stage as the only African artiste at the 66th edition of the awards.
The artiste earned nominations in four different categories for the upcoming awards: “I Told Them…” for Best Global Music Album, “City Boys” for Best African Music Performance, “Alone” for Best Global Music Performance, and “Sittin’ on Top of the World” for Best Melodic Rap Performance.
WWE boss Vince McMahon quits after sex trafficking lawsuit
Vince McMahon, the founder and CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), has resigned following allegations of sex trafficking made by former employee Janel Grant. McMahon denied the accusations, calling the lawsuit “replete with lies.” He stated, “Out of respect for… WWE… I have decided to resign… effective immediately.”
Grant accused McMahon and another executive of pressuring her into a physical relationship and trafficking her to entice wrestling talent. She alleged that McMahon expected her to engage in sexual activity at WWE headquarters and accused both defendants of sexual assault.
Grant criticised WWE’s investigation into the matter, calling it “a sham.” Her lawyer stated that Grant hopes the lawsuit “will prevent other women from being victimised.
King Sunny Ade receives honorary award at Afrozons Pre-Grammy party
King Sunny Ade, the legendary Nigerian singer, received a prestigious award at the Afrozons pre-Grammy party held on Friday in Lagos. Burna Boy’s mother, Bose Ogulu, presented him with the award during the ceremony.
During his brief speech, the 77-year-old Juju legend expressed gratitude to God, stating, “Praise the Lord! Actually, I don’t know what to say but to thank the almighty God for allowing me to be alive and present here today.”
Ayra Starr apologises for ‘disrespecting’ King Sunny Ade
Grammy-nominated Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has apologised for not greeting legendary musician King Sunny Ade (KSA) in a proper manner. A video circulating online showed her shaking hands with the 77-year-old KSA without kneeling or curtsying, sparking reactions from some netizens who were displeased with her approach.
Ayra Starr took to her X handle to apologise to KSA. She tweeted: “ I’m so sorry. I had just walked in, and all the lights and nerves didn’t let me see, but I came back to greet everyone properly.
“I have never been that girl to be disrespectful, and I’m a proper Yoruba girl, and the video didn’t start until after I’d greeted Burna’s mom! I’m very sorry to the legend, uncle and King Sunny Ade.”

Afrobeats stars Kizz Daniel and Davido have joined forces again, releasing the remix of Kizz’s hit single, ‘Twe Twe’. ‘Twe Twe ‘, initially released on December 12th, has consistently topped Nigerian charts and become a YouTube favourite. The music is being directed by Nigerian Director TG Omori.
Wizkid, Bloody Civilian, others to feature on Bob Marley’s ‘One Love’ EP
Afrobeats artistes Wizkid and Grammy-nominated producer Bloody Civilian are set to feature on Bob Marley’s “One Love (Music Inspired By The Film)” for Paramount Pictures. The EP, releasing on February 14th, will also include Skip Marley, Daniel Caesar, Kacey, Jessie Reyez, and Leon Bridges, performing songs like “Natural Mystic” and “One Love”, originally written by Bob Marley. This collaboration pays tribute to Bob Marley, a pioneer of reggae, whose influence led to the creation of the film.
