Two arraigned for allegedly stealing phones worth N1.9 million

Two persons, Shittu Olatunji and Fatima Audu, on Wednesday, appeared before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Wuse, Abuja, for allegedly stealing two mobile phones worth N1.9 million.
The prosecuting counsel, Simpa Ibrahim, told the court that the complainant, Bashiru Badamosi, reported the matter at Garki Police Station on August 29.
Mr Ibrahim said that while the complainant was going along Lagos Crescent, Garki, Abuja, the defendants allegedly formed a criminal intention and stole his A15 and Z fold 5 Samsung cellphones valued at N1.9 million.
He said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The defence counsel, Enagonimi Ekpede, applied for the bail of the defendants citing section 165 of Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA).
He urged the court to grant the application in the most liberal terms.
The Magistrate, Ekpeyong Inyang, granted the defendants N1 million bail with one surety in like sum and directed that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
Ms Inyang added that the sureties must produce their utility bills, affidavits of means of livelihood and valid means of identification.
She adjourned the matter until October 12 for hearing.
