Two arraigned in Lagos over alleged offensive social media posts

Two men, Okewale Oluleke and Oluwasegun Oluwasanmi, were on Thursday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court over alleged offensive social media publications capable of disturbing public peace in Lagos.
Messrs Oluleke, 48, and Oluwasanmi, 50, are facing a four-count charge, bordering on conspiracy and breach of peace.
The prosecutor, Josephine Ikhayere, alleged that the defendants, along with others still at large, committed the offences between August and December 2025.
According to the prosecution, the defendants posted several inflammatory publications on Facebook (Meta) using the profiles “Lagos Concern” and “Prince Chigo.”
Ms Ikhayere also alleged that Mr Oluleke sent an electronic message via WhatsApp to a public officer on September 20, 2025.
The prosecutor argued that the actions could disrupt public order.
The prosecutor said the charges contravened Sections 412, 413(2), and 416 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The prosecutor requested the court to remand the defendants and set a hearing date.
She also expressed her intent to submit exhibits, including mobile phones allegedly used in committing the offences.
Magistrate L.A. Owolabi granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N400,000 each with two responsible sureties, pending trial.
He adjourned the case until February 26 for mention and continuation of proceedings.
