Two arrested for allegedly robbing Oyo couple of jewellery, iPhones, N4.5 million

Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command on Wednesday arrested two of three suspects for their alleged involvement in the robbery of a married couple at gun point at their home in Ibadan, on June 15, 2025.
In a post on X, on Friday, the command said the suspects, after breaking into the home of the couple, made away with their jewellery, phones and other valuables worth millions of naira, while also forcing them to transfer N4.5 million to an accomplice.
The statement read, “On June 15, 2025, around 3 pm, a man named Dotun Agaba (real name withheld) and his wife, Jiji ‘F’, who reside around Bashorun area of Ibadan, encountered a violent situation outside their home. They were confronted by three members of a notorious criminal gang, heavily armed and threatening them with sophisticated weapons.
“These criminals forced the couple into their apartment at gunpoint, stealing a total of 52 grams of gold jewellery worth about 7.5 million naira, along with an iPhone 13, an iPhone 16 Pro Max, and other valuable items. Additionally, they illegally transferred 4.5 million naira from the couple’s Moniepoint bank account into an account belonging to a female accomplice in the robbery. The thieves then fled the scene on a motorbike they used during the attack.”
According to the command, the incident was reported to the Ikolaba Police Division and later forwarded to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Iyaganku, Ibadan, where a thorough investigation into the matter was launched.
It further stated that, “On September 3, 2025, around 5 pm, two suspects were apprehended in their hideouts: the gang leader, identified as Omole Ridwan, and Adegbile Adewumi, the female member whose account was exploited for the money transfer.”
The law enforcement operatives, during the arrest, recovered several dangerous items, including an AK-47 rifle, breach No. 1057; an empty AK-47 magazine; a double-barrel pistol, a homemade gun-like object, an axe, and two cutlasses used in the robbery.
The command noted that the nabbed 35-year-old Ridwan and 45-year-old Adewumi, have “provided voluntary confessions to the police regarding their involvement and have shared essential details that may help in catching the remaining gang members.”
Stating that the investigation was ongoing, the command assured that further details would be disclosed later.
