Two in court over alleged electrical cable theft

Two men, Olufemi Bamidele, 40, and Isoje Felix, 37, were arraigned before a Grade ‘A’ customary court in Iyaganku, Ibadan, on Friday for allegedly stealing electrical cables.
The defendants, of undisclosed residential addresses, faced a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecuting counsel, Philip Amusan, told the court that the defendants and others allegedly conspired to commit the offences.
Mr Amusan alleged that the duo, sometime in August, at about 6:00 p.m., stole nine pieces of 1.5mm cable, valued at N241,200; six pieces of 2.5mm cable; 4mm cable, and 10 pieces of 1.3amp single socket.
The prosecutor put the total value of stolen goods at N765,460, property of one Oyeyinka Olateju of Adetokun Ologuneru, Ibadan.
According to Mr Amusan, the offences contravene Section 383 and are punishable under sections 390 (9) and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.
The magistrate, Sukurat Yusuf, admitted each of the defendants to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Ms Yusuf said one of the sureties must be a blood relation to each of the defendants.
She, thereafter, adjourned the matter till September 29 for mention.
