Two in court over alleged theft of motorcycle worth N1.35 million

The magistrate adjourned the case until August 21 for mention.

The police in Lagos on Monday arranged two men, Saheed Olayemi and Ibrahim Magaji, before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stealing motorcycle worth N1.35 million.

Olayemi, 32, and Magaji, 22, whose addresses were not provided, are facing a four-count charge of conspiracy, felony to wit stealing, malicious damage and receiving stolen property.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Adegeshin Famuyiwa, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on July 22, at Ire Akindina area, Igbogbo in Ikorodu, Lagos.

Ms Famuyiwa said that the defendants with others now at large, dishonesty stole one black Zongshen Motorcycle with Reg. No SMK 112 QN and wilfully destroyed its number plate.

She alleged that on the same day, Magaji received the stolen property valued at N1.35m belonging to one Habeeb Ismaila.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections 411, 287, 350, and 328 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

Section 287 stipulates a three-year jail term for stealing.

The Magistrate, A.O. Ogbe, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N200,000 each with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case until August 21 for mention.
