Two in court over alleged theft, receiving stolen copper wire

Two men, who allegedly stole and received Hp laptop, copper wire and a bottle of groundnut oil, were on Wednesday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The defendants, Otse Emmanuel, 25, and Bashiru Isiaka, 45, pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge of stealing and receiving stolen property.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Olasunkanmi Bamikole, told the court that the first defendant committed the offence in March at the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the first defendant stole one HP laptop valued at N370,000, one bottle of groundnut oil valued at N2,500, belonging to one Okoh Oluwabunmi.
Bamikole said that Emmanuel also stole some copper wire valued at N830,000, property of the polytechnic.
The prosecutor said that Isiaka on the other hand received the stolen copper wire, knowing it to be stolen property.
According to him, the offences contravened Sections 302 and 343 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
Counsel to the defendants, Adedayo Awe, urged the court to grant his clients bail, and promised to produce them during their trial.
The Chief Magistrate, Adefunke Anoma, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N50,000 with one surety each in like sum.
She adjourned the case till July 15 for hearing.
