Two Islamic State fighters killed in Syria, says U.S. military

The U.S. military has said that it killed two fighters from the terrorist group Islamic State in Syria and wounded another.
“The terrorists were moving a truckload of weapons that were destroyed during the strike,” the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a press release on Monday.
“This strike occurred in an area formerly controlled by the Syrian regime and Russians” in the Deir al-Zour province, it added.
That control ended when the former Syrian ruler Bashar al-Assad was overthrown earlier this month.
Despite the military victory over the terrorist group Islamic State announced in 2019, its cells remain active in Syria.
The U.S. leads an international coalition in Iraq and Syria in the fight against the group.
The U.S. troops are expected to remain in the country for the foreseeable future, even after Mr Assad’s overthrow.
